Congratulations-Simon
“We are very pleased to say that ‘Super Simon’ rode in to London just after 5am this morning having successfully completed London-Edinburgh-London 2009. Greeted with a bottle of champagne, he was looking tired to say the least, but what a fantastic achievement to have ridden 1400km in 5 days and in such atrocious conditions. Utterly brilliant effort!

We’ll hopefully have some pictures of the ride to post up soon.”

It’s looking good!

July 30, 2009

“We received information from Simon earlier today. He is doing really well but is obviously very tired and nursing himself through. He got to Thorne at 1am last night and left at 5.45am to anticipate arrival at Gam for 10.30pm, for a quick stop, then through the night to the end. He’s hoping to finish in the early hours on Friday morning.

Fantastic effort Simon. We’re rooting for you.”

“We’ve had a second blow to the team. My Achilles Tendon has swollen to the extent that I am no longer able to pedal with my left leg. Yesterday afternoon was hell, and within 30 minutes of Edinburgh I had to make the very upsetting decision to retire from the ride.

I can’t tell you how fustrated I am, particularly with this weather! The cold has really played havoc, and although the ’machines’ were performing brilliantly, the ‘men’ have had some rotten luck.

Our soul survivor Simon is bravely striving onwards against this appalling rain and the driving winds. We’ll keep you posted- he may just make it!”

Dan is out!

July 28, 2009

“It’s 12.37pm and we’ve got some sad news. Dan has torn a cruciate ligament so has had to retire from the ride on doctor’s orders, having reached 597km. This is particularly upsetting as it is the first ride that Dan has not been able to complete in over 20 years.

Simon and myself are carrying on and hope to reach Edinburgh by 2pm today.”

462km – Wet & Windy

July 27, 2009

“It’s 6.37pm and we’re at Middleton Tyas, 462km in. It was very wet last night and very windy today so we’re finding it hard work. But everyone is doing ok.”

The First 50

July 26, 2009

“It’s 3.55pm and we’ve covered around 50miles travelling at an average of 21mph.

The start went well at 1.45pm with a couple of hundred in the one group. There were a lot of Italians going hell-for-leather and it was difficult to keep up for the first couple of miles.

The Moulton group has split up with Dan taking the lead and myself in second. Simon only got a couple of hours sleep last night so is taking it easy at the beginning.

There has been a big tail wind, nice flat countryside, a little drizzle, but generally the weather is good and a nice temperature.

The Moulton is working perfectly and I’m looking forward to the long night ahead!”
